Jimi Hendrix All Wrapped Up With a Deep Fried Pickle!

So it has been almost a week since my last blog but not much has happened out of the ordinary in my very busy life.
Today I did fulfill one of the things on my list to do before I die..... I visited Jimi Hendrix. No not in another realm or under the influence but, at the site where his memorial is. I have been by the Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton Washington about as many times as I have changed diapers. For those of you who don't know I am a mother of three children and have worked in childcare changing diapers off and on for about 10 years. I have always been a little intimidated by actually going, I think I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to find his grave.
I was terribly mistaken! You see, I had seen pictures of his headstone years ago and it was small and in the middle of a cemetery in Seattle. I found out today that his family actually moved his remains to Renton and embellished on an extravagant gazebo looking memorial with detailed engravings on the marble looking surface. The engravings were in his handwriting and were lyrics from his songs, phrases about love and life and pictures of him. It was amazing and I am very proud that I took my children to a place where a true talented musician was laid to rest. We took Bright orange and pink Gerber daises in resemblance to a very vintage outfit he once wore that we all thought was so 60's and awesome looking.

By Jimi's memorial is a huge sun dial. My oldest son Cadin said "Mom it's 12:00 noon." I said "How do you know?" He said "Look it says so on the sun dial." I said "Great! Let's go eat lunch."
We headed off to a favorite Taqueria that we first discovered in Bellevue. On the way to Jimi we discovered that it is actually a chain and that they have one in Renton too! So we were off to Rinconsitos for some chicken tacos and fried jalapenos one of my favorite things to eat. FYI: Rinconsito means "corner" and Taqueria means "taco restaurant". After our yummy tacos we headed home to wait for our good friend Lisa to contact us about the rest of our day...........















*4 hours later*


Lisa is on my porch knocking. Lisa, a big fan of the Food Network had discovered a deep fried pickle. In hindsight my first response was "GROSS!!", but after mulling it over in my mind it became my mission to take Lisa to get a deep fried pickle. After all it is on her list of things to do before she dies, Plus I will try anything once.

I did some research on the Internet to find a deep fried pickle, beings that my good friend Nicole dissed us on pickle day. Apparently there is a place in Kirkland you can get them but I couldn't find out where VIA Google. Google directed me to a place called The People's Pub in Seattle Ballard area, which by the way had rave reviews.
I Map Quested the address and we were off! I don't know if you have ever tried to Map Quest a place, but boy howdy it can be a riot! We did eventually find the place about an hour after lift-off.

Once in the The People's Pub it seemed kind of quiet, and I wasn't sure if anyone even knew we entered the establishment. After a few moments we looked around and decided on a table. I went in search for a staff person so they would know we were waiting. Right around the corner here comes our waiter (I didn't get his name sorry :( .) Our very pleasant waiter told us we could sit anywhere we wanted to, except the bar because of the crumb snatchers, Although they do offer happy hour in both areas!!!!!! We told the guy "Dude we came here for pickles." He said "Yeah they are a favorite." I ordered an order of pickles, root beer for Coen, water for Kalyx, Mac n Jacks for me and Lisa ordered Fish n Chips and a Sprite. The pickles and drinks came first. We were thinking it was going to be a whole pickle but better yet it came out in spears and you get 5 per order. The pickles are served with a ground mustard sauce that is rather creamy and yummy, a nice balance with the tartness of the dill pickle. We were all hesitant to take a first bite for fear that we would burn our tongues, the roof of our mouths or just plain gag. To our initial dismay we were instantly in love. What a wonderful invention we all agreed! Who invented this we wondered? Before we could come up with the answer we ordered another batch of pickles. Lisa would like to add the Fish n Chips were also yummy, especially the unique flavor of the tartar sauce.









One aspect of The People's Pub that I didn't read anywhere else is that they have a shelf of board games to play while you wait. What an amazing concept, especially if you have children or friends with ADD (much like Lisa J/K!) While we waited and throughout our meal we played Chutes and Ladders. Coen won! Baby Kalyx even participated! This place was a hit! We had fun and will go back again. What a fun random Saturday, Dontcha think?
I am not sure what is next or when but, there will be more soon. In case you have just tuned in this is my blog of Random Ramblings...... Our next adventure may have something to do with Lee/Discovery???

Wall of Gum

By the way this is my first attempt at blogging so bear with me! In time I will improve my blogging skills. (With the help my FFF Super Blogger Bekki.) Check out her blog. Confessions of a Daughters closet. She is responsible for my daughter being in some kick ass duds and my wallet being empty. Oh well my daughter looks great thats all that matters. Who knew when I woke up this morning the random adventures that would take place. First mission was to find my keys. Hmmmm.... Where could they be? I figure they must be in my husbands pocket who is at work without a way for me to get a hold of him. Thanks to him we have saved 2000.00 dollars by not owning cell phones. (what a saint.) I'll expand more on that soon enough I am sure. Just when I hung up the phone with my lock out service Coen my 7 year old son comes running and screaming across the house "FOUND EM!" "Where were they?" I ask. "On my bed behind Cadin's towel." Using Cadin my oldest sons name in the mix so hopefully he will get blamed for the missing keys. Little did he know I was over it and just wanted to head out for a random day of fun. After a 1/2 hour of being on hold with the same locksmith company to cancel my order(they couldn't find me in the system of course) I was in full force and ready to go!! Off to Herfy's Burgers and Teriyaki. Not to eat Oh Heavens NO. That Place is dirty and food tastes like it is a week old. We are picking up our good friend Lisa. We head to Bellevue to get some gum at 7-11. $13.85 later we are ready to roll to the Wall of Gum. What is the wall of gum you ask? It is in an alley behind Pike Place Market in Seattle. Beware if you park in the garage and have to walk up the stairs in an eerie stair well, remember when you get to the top don't be fooled you are not locked in. Thanks to the nice gentleman that pointed out to the five of us you just need to push the door open not pull. Needless to say we laughed so hard we cried at ourselves. I have never been and wanted to see this disgusting concoction of chewed Hubba Bubba. We decided to meet up with Jesse and Riley to make our mark on the wall. I don't know how to describe this germ filled abstract piece of work. It spellbinds you but repels you all the same. Coen was so intrigued he even licked it before I could grab him by the collar. If he dies in a week we all will know why....know sense in an autopsy. After our adventure at the Wall of Gum we all decided to go to a restaurant called The Bamboo Garden next to Seattle Center and Key Arena. The Bamboo Garden is a vegan Chinese food restaurant with the best (what I call) donkey balls in the world. No they aren't actually donkey balls hence the word vegan. They are in many of their dishes. Like sweet and sour chicken, general tso's etc.... they are amazing. After lunch it was back to Bellevue to drop Lisa off and homeward bound to get ready for date night with Hubby Jason. Jason and I decided to do something new. We ordered tickets to that swingers club in Lynwood. Just kidding we decided to go to Laughs in Kirkland for dinner and a show. We saw comedians Ryan Hamilton and opening act Bryan something. Both very funny acts I even shook both of their hands. Very cool. Looking to my left and what do I see to my dismay it is Mack Strong formerly of the Seattle Seahawks! After the show I was lucky enough to shake his hand to. What a random day!
